What is the Garden City Greenway?
It's a major one million pound investment by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation and a permanent commemoration of Letchworth Garden City's first Centenary in 2003. It embodies what the Garden City is all about - a place 'where town and country meet'.

Who came up with the idea?
The Greenway idea came from the Heritage Foundation, an organisation which was set up in 1995 to take over the ownership and management of the 5,300 acre Garden City estate.

How long will it take to walk around the Greenway?
The Garden City Greenway is approximately 13.6 miles (21.8 km) long. Different people of different ages will take different lengths of time to complete the walk. Many choose to set a target of completing a smaller section of the walk, stopping at some of the many points of interest.

Where can I park my car?
There are four car parks located around the Garden City Greenway. These are situated at Radwell Meadows (off Nortonbury Lane), Manor Wood, Wymondley Wood (off Wymondley Road), and at Standalone Farm. All car parks are clearly marked on the map. Please be aware that Radwell Meadows car park is only open from 8am to 9pm between 31 March and 31 October and 8am to 8pm between 1 November and 30 March – outside of these times an automatic bollard will raise, preventing entry or exit of vehicles.

Is the route accessible for wheelchair users?
Various stretches of the Garden City Greenway is suitable for wheelchairs. These sections are represented by red or light purple on the Greenway map.

Can I cycle around the Greenway?
The majority of the Garden City Greenway is suitable for cyclists. Please refer to the map for further details.

Are there any picnic areas or places on the route where I can stop to consume refreshments?
There are picnic areas situated at Radwell Meadows and Manor Wood. Radwell Meadows also provides several fixed barbeques (please bring fuel) and an award winning childrens’ play area. Both locations provide excellent places to stop and take in the marvellous countryside views.

If you are looking for something more substantial there are a number of pubs within a short distance of the route. The Three Horseshoes in Norton is a short walk from Radwell Meadows, and in Willian, The Fox and The Three Horseshoes are close to Willian Arboretum. The Wilbury is directly on the Greenway, and The Two Chimneys is not far from Standalone Farm.

Can I use the route for a charity walk?
Yes, the MS Trust and Letchworth Garden City Rotary Club have previously used the Garden City Greenway for fundraising walks and cycle rides. The Greenway provides an interesting route for walkers, and a number of open spaces for organisers and refreshments. To find out more about using the route for charitable activities please email info@letchworth.com

I am having difficultly printing out the map from the website. Where can I pick up a published copy?
You can obtain a copy of our Garden City Greenway leaflet from the Tourist Information Centre, on Station Road, which incorporates a large map, or email info@letchworth.com with your contact name and address so we can send you copy directly.

How can I report a problem that I have noticed on the route?
Please let us know about any problems you have encountered when using the Garden City Greenway. Please telephone 01462 476000 or email info@letchworth.com
